What is VPX ?
VPX is a standard defined by VITA (VME International Trade Association) that modernizes VME architecture by integrating high-speed interconnects based on serial links such as PCIe or Ethernet. Designed for mission-critical embedded systems, VPX offers enhanced flexibility thanks to OpenVPX, an extension that standardizes interconnect profiles to guarantee interoperability between suppliers. This standard also plays a key role in the SOSA™ (Sensor Open Systems Architecture) initiative, which promotes open, modular architectures, particularly for defense applications, to simplify technology integration and upgrades.
VPX operating principles
VPX is based on high-speed serial interconnects, replacing traditional parallel buses to offer better performance and greater flexibility. Thanks to OpenVPX, board and backplane profiles are standardized, guaranteeing greater interoperability between suppliers. As part of the SOSA™ initiative, VPX is structured to meet the requirements of modular embedded systems, facilitating the integration and evolution of architectures, particularly for defense and industrial applications.
